Danny Fuqua
President, Volusia County Democratic Black Caucus

A Message from Our President

As I look back over the past few years, beginning in 2020, I can’t help but reflect on the profound changes we’ve all experienced. The global COVID-19 pandemic brought deep loss and pain to our community, including the heartbreaking passing of our beloved Caucus 1st Vice President Jessie Harris. It changed the way we live, the way we connect with family, the way we work, and even how we engage with one another.

However, through these challenges, our Volusia County Democratic Black Caucus has remained resilient. I would be remiss not to acknowledge the incredible leadership of Dr. Ronald L. Durham, who faithfully served as president of the Volusia County Democratic Party for many years. His steadfast commitment helped guide us through some of our most difficult times.

The challenges did not end with the pandemic. The events of January 6th shook our democracy to its core. Yet, through it all, our Democratic Veterans Caucus stood strong, unified in our mission to protect and uphold the values we hold dear. We faced those challenges head-on, continuing to push forward and find new ways to serve.

As we approach another pivotal presidential election, we remain united despite ongoing economic setbacks. We are witnessing a nation in recovery, one that is bouncing back stronger than ever. The road hasn’t been easy, but as a Caucus, we’ve remained steadfast in our purpose.

As the President of this great Volusia County Democratic Black Caucus, I pledge to continue the work of implementing our core values and upholding our mission statement. Together, we will ensure that we remain a force for positive change in our community, for we are needed now more than ever.

Thank you for your continued support and dedication to our shared cause.

Meeting the Challenge of Tomorrow Through a Stronger Democratic Voice

Become an Active Voting Member

The goal of the Democratic Black Caucus of Florida is to establish active chapters from Pensacola to Key West and have at least one Caucus Chapter in each county in the State of Florida to acquire Equal Representation from the Court House to the White House.

In Addition, We Will:

• Strengthen our ties to the FDP, local DEC’s, local Democratic leaders, and local elected officials promoting the principles of the Democratic Party on all levels.

• Generate attention and increase membership through news media; Radio talk shows, newspapers, magazines, and television commercials encouraging disenfranchised voters to vote.

• Coalesce with the FYD (Florida Young Democrats) to promote the Committee for Fair Elections.

• Raise funds for the Caucus’ candidates by volunteering to call donors.

• Invite trained FDP Chairpersons to facilitate winning strategies.

• Build communication with the southeastern states.

All elected Black Democrats in the State of Florida are automatically General Members. However, to become an Active Voting Member and enjoy the privileges of full participation in programming and decision-making, an annual assessment of $55 | $35 for Senior Citizens & Students is required to be paid each January which includes state and local membership.
